Lucian Tomuta, from Forum Nokia, has just posted a really informative video showing the Nokia Qt SDK in action. The video shows how easy is to build and test a Qt application on both the desktop Qt simulator and on a real device.

Hi all, what I’ve been into lately is testing some tools for getting a descent cross platform development framework. What I’ve been testing most was PhoneGap, Appcelerator Titanium, Golden Gecko and Whoop. The last 2 are not open platforms neither do they target developers (but rather designers) so I won’t mention them any further. For those of you who may be interested you may contact the guys for a demo. The first 2 are open source. Read more »

New SDK, Ovi publishing and free Symbian signing: Nokia calls individual developers to the rescue
Nokia today did a series of announcement, especially targeted towards individual developers, and with the precise aim of lowering the barriers for developing and publishing apps for Nokia devices.
The first important announcement is that, starting today, individual developers can register and publish their apps to the Ovi Store, a thing previously allowed to companies only. This is a huge step for the Ovi Store itself, as the importance of individual developers in contributing to the growth and success of application stores is absolutely primary.
The second announcement, not less important, is that Nokia started a public beta for signing Symbian apps for free. As the cost of Symbian Signed is historically one of the major targets of criticism, this step from Nokia is surely welcome and a sign of interest (maybe just a bit slow..) from Nokia towards its developers. More informations about packaging and signing are available here.
If this is not enough, Nokia just released the official release of Nokia Qt SDK, shipping with integrated support for the Smart Installer (that allows to dynamically download dependencies for your Qt apps), and allowing to publish apps for Nokia N97 mini and X6.
Absolutely well done, Nokia!
(Via Nokia Conversation) – Nokia just announced 2 new entertainment-oriented devices at Nokia Connection in Singapore: the Nokia X5-01 and the Nokia X6 8GB.
The most interesting is the Nokia X5 which plugs part of the gap between the Nokia X3 and Nokia X6, but as you can see from the video above, is a pretty unique device. The Nokia X5 features excellent sound quality, dedicated music keys and loud speakers, and will include access to Ovi Music, and to Comes with Music in some regions.
Today, Nokia released the version 1.0 Release Candidate of its unified Qt SDK. This new version also includes the Release Candidate of Qt Creator 2.0.

Aside from bug fixing and various improvements, the biggest news in this announcement is that apps for N900 built with this SDK can be finally published to the Ovi Store.
Would this be the rebirth of a powerful, tweakable, but underestimated device?
For the full change log, you can check out the Qt Labs Blog.
While Qt is destined to become the main technology for future Nokia devices, with Nokia focusing his efforts into its recently released Nokia Qt IDE, Carbide C++ still represents in most cases the primary choice for native Symbian development.
Carbide C++ 2.6 has just been released, with the major improvements in the added support for GCCE 4.0 and Symbian^3. Bug fixes include:
- GCCE4 support requires using a SBSv2 build alias (-c parameter) of armv5_udeb_gcce or armv5_urel_gcce. As of this writing, these aliases were not available in the SDK or SBSv2, but will appear in some future version. Carbide versions prior to 2.6 do not support GCCE4.
- Users should consult the SDK documentation for GCCE and SBSv2 issues and installation requirements.
- TRK: If you install the TRK app onto your phone’s flash memory (Mass Storage) a Remote Connection may not find the TRK-service even though TRK is already connected to your PC. Workaround: Uninstall TRK then reinstall it onto your PHONE memory (C-drive). The TRK service should now be “Available”.
The update is available through the standard Software Update mechanism.
Nokia published Top 15 Ovi Store Countries (and device in alphabetical order based on visits): China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam. Read more »
